Phlemmy: Austin is a very nice place, but please remember to "Keep Austin Weird". I've lived in Dallas since my family moved here in 1970. I spent my college years in Lubbock, although I almost transferred to Austin. My brother just moved to Austin from San Antonio. Welcome to Texas!

Dallas folks, I will be visiting your city twice over the next few weeks 12/5-7 and 12/14-17, and am wondering where the good guitar shops are, clubs etc. Any help would be appreciated, and maybe I will see some of your bands play! Who knows?

Steve: I don't get out to the clubs much any more. I have a friend who plays in an excellent Beatle tribute called Hard Night's Day. They play at Club Dada in Deep Ellum (just east of downtown) nearly every Friday at Happy Hour. I seem to buy most of my guitars on-line these days. Charley's Guitars in northwest Dallas is pretty well-known in collector circles, but I haven't stopped by in years (mostly high end Fenders and Gibsons). Let me know what you're looking for and maybe I can be more help.

Steve - I'm in Dallas twice a month, living uptown. I would be available on the 14th or 15th.

Nice site, Mitch!

Do you have the website for Hard Night's Day, Randy?

Steve: Oddly enough it's at www.hardnightsday.com . These guys don't go out of their way to look like The Beatles (they often have five guys on stage), but they get all the sounds and most of the gear right. The bassist is left-handed and plays a Hofner. I've known the drummer Doug forever, and he does a great Ringo. He can also do a great Keith Moon. They've all been playing in Beatles tributes for over twenty years. Several members are part owners of Club Dada. They also do private parties and corporate gigs. At one time they would charge extra to play parties in full Sgt. Pepper uniforms! There's another very impressive local Beatles tribute called 'Me And My Monkey', but I don't think they play much around here anymore.

Steve: My friend Doug had a Beatlesque original band called 'Newspaper Taxi' that played at my housewarming party in 1990. They sounded terrific in the backyard with my full backline of Vox Super Beatle stacks and their Gretsch and Rickenbacker guitars. They closed with a extended 'Louie Louie' featuring my Vox Super Continental organ!
