I reviewed the photos....
You have the "newer" tailpiece, which has more metal/mass to supposely make it stronger than the older ones... you'd think????
BTW: I ordered a "new" 4003 tailpiece from Rick a year ago to put on my 4001... The problem was it already had a lift to it and it was NEW!!!!
Brand new, it did not sit flush on my guitar !!!!
If you want... You can send it to me, I can straighten it so it is as flat as glass... Then I can add the two additional holes with a very clean counter-sink..it would look clean like a factory piece....
WHen I get time... i was working on a mod that will permently fix the tail lift "for once and for all"... It invloves modifying the bottom rear of the tailpiece so that it hooks into a small anchor that is mounted to the body...all this will be hidden under the tailpiece...

While you have it Chris, you should do the bridge screw mod and the flipped around bridge mod.

"...now Dane is teaching me a new trick...reversing the intonation screws...very cool...."

Dang, I've been doing that for 30 years, thought everyone did it.

Next thing your gonna tell is is that the crazy drug induced paint job on your 4001S is 50 years old.

Well,to be honest....I was first a 6 string guitar player for many years before figuring out that bass is way more fun... Nowadays there a more chics that like bass players then back in the day when it was only cool to be the "GUITAR PLAYER"...
The point i was trying to make is that I was a Les-Paul player for most of the years and I use to reverse the bridge so the intonation screws face the pickups....
