Hey, Pete, I resent emails using "reply" to your latest. I'm not sure why they are not getting through.

Jeff...PLEEEAAASSSEEE!

Stop already - You know darn well you'd sell the WB if someone was willing to double your original investment in itImage

Hello Pete (apologies to others on the forum)

Even though I'm hitting the "reply" button on your emails, they don't seem to be getting to you.
We will be in Oxford / Kidlington July 12-22 and have a wedding to attend on the 14th. Email me your phone # so we can ring you up when we arrive.

Looking forward to the trip!

Jim

Unless it was a big number or a great trade, I wouldn't sell either of my Ricks. Maybe my 77 4001, but it was like divine intervention that I found it at all, and my 4003 JG was my first Rick and I'll always think of it as MINE. If I saw someone else playing it I'd know immediately, as half the fretboard is very dark, and I'd keep thinking "Hey, that guy's got my bass! I want it back!" It was my first nice bass after playing sub-mediocre instruments for so long.

Pete hit the nail on the head. The feeling of having a few bills paid pales in comparison to having that magical instrument.

double your original investment in itImage

That, plus maybe a '63 or '64 4001 in JG and a Ferrari 206SP (including auto insurance for it for life).

Deal?

Even speaking as a benefactor, I can feel Pete's pain. He has reason more than most to speak wise words.

The rising vintage prices mean attitudes will change...but, choose carefully what you let go.

Jeff - DONE!

I would have even thrown in oil changes on the Ferrari....Sucker!Shoulda held out.

OK- I have the Ferrari...OK, now the bass, lemme go through my 4001's - 62,65..shucks, no 63 or 64, not in jetglo anyway. That and I'm not sure I have that kinda cash on hand......Jeff, we're going to have to put our deal on hold Image

OK then so, back to the original thread title if I was sell it for - There aren't actual offers to sell but if I was selling today this is what i would sell for:

2001 4001v63 FG - $2500 - immaculate condition, incredible action.

Jan 1973 4001 FG - $2500 - changed bridge with routing under, changed tuners but has CB and FWCMOP inlays.

4003DCM - $4218

so there's a price on everything EXCEPT my least valuable one which is the 73 project bass. NFS but would trade for unencumbered title to home. :>)

I'm still looking for that "One" bass that speaks to me. The V63's are close. My '65 Jazz is close. What I want is something that sounds like my V's but feels as comfortable as that old JB. Maybe a 60's Rick?
So, I guess everything I have now has a price.

I guess everything has a price. The one bass with a price out of reach for mere mortals is my '75 white ******* 4001 with EMG's. It's probably worth the least because of the extensive routing. It originally had the 1/2" spacing. It's been my #1 from 1989-2006. It's only being retired because of my new 5er.
OFF TOPIC:
There are some SEVERE THUNDER STORMS out here in New England. The sun is shining, no wind, but I can hear what sound like large explosions in the distance. Just as I'm typing this it's getting darker. If I suddenly stop posting, you'll know why.

No more posts from Rikk - could he be sans power, me thinks? Hope the trees stay vertical for you, Rikk!
