What would you sell it for?

The comment of the $1700 4003JG got me thinking. While I'd happily part with mine for that amount of cash, I'm a little more reticent to put a price tag on my '68 I've had for 14 years. I was offered 5k for it in the 90's and didn't even think about it.

Anyone here have a long term relationship bass that almost can't even have a price tag?

Absolutely my v68 bass. Not that i'd ever be offered an astronomical amount for it, but nothing would make me give it up.

I think most of us have at least one Rick that to sell would feel like putting a child up for adoption.

Not for sale at any price!!! Money is only money. A Rick is a way of life. I know loads of people who have sold their Ricks and then regretted it. If I needed cash that badly, I'd sell my body. I might get 2 bucks for it. LOL!!!!

All my basses have a price. I like the newer Ricks anyway, I'd just buy another..

My 1976 4000 FG will never leave me. It's been with me since '86, been through everything imaginable and never let me down.

I bought it for $150 in 1973 and had it until 2004 ... somebody offered me $6500 for it ... it was a beautiful bass but it had a weak neck and weak pickups and only 4 strings ... so I sold it ...

Hmm...probably my first Rickenbacker, my '79 4001 LH---I'll have that one forever. Everything else can be 'had' I suppose for a price. I think trading might be fun too...

MY CS is in my Will to go to my daughter.

I was offered a TON of money for her (CORRECTION, THANKS JDOG) THE 4001CS THAT IS, LOTS MORE than the current high water mark of $7500.00 and I wouldn't do it. IT WAS TEMPTING and my knees buckled, but I'm STILL glad I didn't sell her (THE 4001CS)!

When the hurricanes hit, she's (THE 4001CS that is) the first one in the car. IF I can ONLY take one, she's (THE 4001CS that is)the one.

I'm with John on the trading deal, I like that idea! THE GUITARS, NOT MY DAUGHTER! LOL!

My 1973 4001SG project - I had thought about selling it at one time but, it's such a beautiful bass. It plays SO well, and has a tonal range few basses can achieve.

So why doesn't it have a price?

I guess because, while it's not like there's been routing done, there have been many mods including - changed binding, refinish,ebony board added and refretted....on and on...

If someone offered me $1000 or something similar, it just wouldn't be worth it, but that's all I might get on the collectible market. The bass went through a process that you can't put a price on. The winning it for very little on Ebay, the friendship it built with Ted from staying at his house, the trips to confluences...

On the other hand, my 4003DCM, and 4001v63 which are both prize winning(IMHO), all perfect basses would have a price as they could just be replaced with money. The 73 I just picked up is sought after, and while it has some issues, also has all "the features" you'd want from a 1973. It might go soon unless i can figure out which project I want to do.
