Hey Sea Green, Isuspect you are lucky. My new fireglo is a real improvement over my prior 4003, but it's still higher than I'd like. I'm gonna mess with it some more today, but I think it's probably as good as it's gonna get.
Interesting discussion of the nut grooves folks, I'll have to check mine out now!

Ive notice that I cant set the action on my V63 as low as I'd like, but I think its due to just a couple of high frets. As soon as I find a reputable luthier in my area Its going in for a few tweaks....fretwork is the one area that I've never ventured into.

Yea Scott, frets can be a problem and leveling errant ones can be tricky. I think sometimes the necks and frets on some basses as they come from the factory are a little better than others. Like this new 4003 I just got, the action is better and I noticed the finish on the fretboard is much better than on my prior one. Sometimes it could be a matter of quality and workmanship.
BTW, I checked the nut grooves on my new 4003 and they are U-shaped for sure, not V. Nice and round on the bottoms. Go figure.
