Peter,
I can't thank you enough for all your work on this forum. But come to think about it, this forum has been indirectly responsible for me purchasing 2 Rics in the past year! If my wife knew that, she would ban me from this forum in the future, if she could.

Peter, one thing that I really appreciate with this Forum (well, there are a lot of things, really), is that when you post on a thread, it brings that thread back up to the top of the department index. I belong to a couple of model hobby forums, and if there is chatter in a particular thread, you have to go hunt it down through pages and pages (screens and screens) to find it again. I hope that method doesn't go away with your changes.

And, I don't know if it's too late to suggest, but I think I suggested some time ago that if there's a way to have mug shots of discussion participants in the box on the left, that would be great. It's good to put a face with the name and easier to remember folks who are in the discussions.

Peter, I'm looking forward to seeing the new changes. Fortunately I'm going to be away in the country during the downtime, so I won't be deprived of my beloved Forum Image

Hi Peter! Good luck with your changes, I know it is a tough job ahead of you and wish you well Image

Say, are you going to version 4.10.1, or are the changes those of formatting within your existing version of DiscusWare, or are you doing both?

Thanks for the wonderful job you do, Peter!

Wouldn't that be version 4.00.1? Or versions 4.00.2, 4.00.3, 4.00.4, 4.00.5. 4.00.8, 4.08.0?

Or if he is really ahead of the game, version 5.00.2! Image

Dunno! I just know that the www.discusware.com site says in the top right corner: "Current Release: Discus 4.10.1"

Surely Peter would not want to put the current development build of 5.0 up (or is that the alpha of 5.0 and the beta of 4.1?) until that becomes stable and current... but it is gonna have lots of new cool features. We run some Discus Pro instances ourselves in the datacenter here for a few customers, and its current version is a cool and very stable package with lots of options and is also very inexpensive ($150, such a deal!).

Peter,
Will the website remain as "RickResource.com" .... or will that be changed, as well? The reason I'm asking is that the web filters where I work block this website...I can't access the forum at all....

BTW, if anyone can instruct me how to "bypass" that little nuisance, PM me asap! Image

Peter, I may be a newbie, but I do appreciate the warm welcome and all that you do behind the scenes.

Now everyone...please post lots of posts ASAP, so I have something to read for the next few days Image

Cris, you could pick up that bass and noodle around with it while the site is down! Image

Besides, you couldn't possibly have gone through all of the archives, already!

When we come out the other side all will be answered and hopefully to the satisfaction of most. I will keep the format under raps for now.

Much thought and planning has gone into this these changes that will be introduced. I have listened fairly closely to the comments made over the course of time and have introduced features based on these constructive critiques.

It is hoped that the planning and behind the scenes work will pay off as the new features are implemented.

You are right Jeffrey - that one went right over my follicle-challenged head, and I apologize that I did not get it! In hindsight, it was quite a good one too Image This week I am not very smart Image But I am good-intentioned and pure of heart!!

Peter, the board WILL remain Discus Pro, will it not?

One thing that is obvious is that you are gaining significantly-larger storage space in your rehost to another machine, and this will enable you to put all the archives back on the same machine (or group of machines) as the main active files.

One of these days you will cash in that lottery ticket for a free lifetime host colo in one of our fiber datacenters, instead of hopping paid providers....
