We are fortunate in Austin. It's a black hoe of weather as we rarely get anything bad like the rest of the state gets. Footage looks terrible and I hope Richard and some other friends of mine there are ok.

Just hung up with Richard. He's fine, his power was out from 5 o clock and came back on a minute ago while I was talking to him, so he should be posting a little later.

I wouldn't be surprised if we don't hear from him for a few days. In 2004 I lost power for about three days with Hurricane Charley. I got seriously L**D because of it!!! No joke! I mean, what else can you do? This girl I worked with wasn't allowed back in her neighborhood due to downed power lines so she called me for somewhere to crash! (of course, I'm the DOG!!!) Ah, I need another hurricane... NO NO NO I don't mean that!!!!!!!! D'oh!

I'm okay and want to thank everyone for their concern. I also want to thank the man above for sparing me from the damage that this area received. I wasn't affected by any of the flooding, nor does it appear that I have any roof damage. I did have three planks of fencing in the back yard damaged along with two solar screens that came off the windows. My power was off for 8 hours and came back yesterday at 1 pm while I was talking to the JDog. There are still 1.85 million customers in the metro Houston area without electricity (down from 2.1 million).

I feel a little guilty having such minor damage when this area was hit as hard as it was. One of my colleagues has an oak tree in her living room and many of my friends and colleagues are still without their power. I know there are some other Houston area forumites and I'd wish that they would check in whenever they have a chance.

I also understand that Ike made his presence felt in St. Louis, Ohio, and Toronto today. I hope everyone up there suffered as little as I did.

I'm heading back up to the Dallas/Ft. Worth Metroplex tomorrow for a previously scheduled business trip.

Richard, thanks for the update on your situation. I'm glad you made it through mostly unscathed.

Here is St Louis we got about five inches of rain in six hours. Some wind damage but mostly flooding near dry washes and drainage canals. Areas that have never flooded in my 15 years here flooded today. I think it was simply too much rain too fast for the storm sewer system to handle. We are waiting to see what effects all of this may have on river levels.

Like Richard I had minimal damage compared to what others suffered here because of wind and flood damage. St Louis, in general, experienced far, far, far less damage than you had in Houston.

The bigger problem for all of us is the impending Chapter 11 filing of Lehman Brothers and the sale of Merrill Lynch to B of A. All this storm damage plus the failing credit system equals one bleak day on Wall Street tomorrow. Hold onto your hats!!

I live clear up in Ohio, near Dayton, and we got high winds yesterday gusting up to 80 mph. This went on from around noon til 6:00 PM.

I've never seen anything like it this far north. Today most schools in the are are closed due mainly to the power outages.

I dont know how you people living near the real action handle it.

Let's hope the effort to get all affected people is quick and efficient. They need it...

Ah, that's what we have the Fed for....

Another day of reconstructive bail outs coming, a de facto nationalization. Housing, banking, and coming up soon, the airlines and motor industry. Keep your profits, and let the taxpayer pick up your debts. Nice work if you can get it...

And people say socialism has nothing to offer...

The same way a lot of the rest of us handle tornados.

We had tornados and heavy rains with some flooding and power outages as what was left of Ike passed through. This started on Saturday and all day yesterday. I sit high enough that I have never seen floods at our home (yet).

Kris, remember that tornados can and do form within a hurricane.

We lost power last evening and still don't have it back yet. I am broadcasting from the Phoenix Coffeehouse!
