Good point!
4000 basses were neckthrough into the early '70s I think.
But this has the skunk stripe = mid '72 and on.

What is the definitive answer to when Rickenbacker switch the 4000 to set neck construction?

The only things consistant with any given model of Rickenbacker are the changes through the years.

I've seen one. Can't remember if it was a 4000 or a 4001S. I think it was a 4001S because it was on eBay and I was very tempted to bid on it (I'm a two pickup guy!) I love the skunk and I love the S and this one made quite an impression on me! It was a very early skunk striper though. Late '72, maybe early '73. Grovers and plexi TRC. Mojo'd Fireglo! Ahhh....the one that got away.....

I still say fake.

There's no apparent route for the neckpup,, and it has deluxe features ruling out the possibility of it being a 4000 model. What else could it be????

Prove me wrong people.

Never look a gift axe from an 'old hippie guy' in the truss rod cavity...

If it is a faker, I'd offer to buy it cheap...then paint it up crazy and hang it on a wall...non-playable art!

...or rent a steam roller and make a memorable youtube clip...
