The first 4001 bass I had was an HJ and it had ROS and I think it was a 68, I traded a 62 jazz for it in 69.....R

I'm a confirmed S man myself, but Andy's '68 Deluxe is what really kept me there.

I mean...the guy didn't have any beer! Not...even...ONE!!

I was very tempted. I love a nice '68 4001 deluxe, especially in FG. And the bass was only about a half hours drive from me. I emailed the guy back and forth a bit about driving out to see it in person. But in the end, my blinding hatred of horseshoe pickups kept me away. If this puppy were born with a hi-gain I think I would have bid for the moon and bought the sucker.

I could have bought it and changed out the surround and pickup, but on a bass this old and this original I didn't want to do that.

Oh well. It's not like I need another 4001!

...And if Dale F ever gets around to it (16 months and counting) I do have a 4001V68 FG in the making to be made from this bass: http://rickresource.com/register/user_i ... llsize.jpg which would have a stronger neck and a vastly superior bridge pickup anyway.

It's baaaaack, although this time a bit more accurately described as a parts bass!

As you may recall, the seller stopped by the forum and took advantage of the collective wisdom offered (see prior posts on this thread).

That's a great bass, IMO. I wish I has the cash for it. (unless someone wants to buy it and trade me for my FG V63  )
