My guess is that the silver tolex reissue cases emerged as an option in the 1989-90 time frame when the Lennon signature edition reissues (JL 325/355) came out in silver cases.
In my experience, the form-fit cases with the raised "Rickenbacker" logo on top date to the mid-late 1970s, so your case may not be "factory original." On the other hand, Rick dealers sometimes mismatched cases in storage with instruments on display when sold, so the original owner of your guitar could have purchased it with that case.
