My first Rickenbacker 360 12 v64

Post by myfirstrick »

Well hello all, I just joined this forum today, and already can tell the members here have quite a bit of knowledge about all things Rickenbacker. I recently purchased my first Ric, taking possesion strangely enough on the 30th anniversary of John Lennon's death. Kinda weird! The guitar I bought is a Sept. 1987 360 12 v 64 vintage reissue. I purchased this Ric from a local man who simply put an ad in the paper. He was the original owner. When I answered the ad and inquired about the condition "Gary" said it was mint, unplayed, stored by him in the ohsc for ythe last 23yrs. and still had the original strings. Okay... Well... here is where the story gets interesting, "Gary" wasn't lying, when I arrived at his home to inspect the guitar it was everything he said it was and a little more. He also gave me an additional hardshell case from 1987 mint condition. I pulled those hundreds out of my wallet so fast I got bill burn!! But fellow forum members what do I do now? To be honest I'm a little freaked out, I have really no idea what this guitar is worth, obviously more than the $1500 I paid. I would hate to be the one to put the first scratch, ding etc. into what is probably one of the few perfect examples left. I'm leaning toward finding another Ric that is more of a player. Any advice is much appreciated. Thanks heres a couple pics.

Beautiful guitar, man! If I were you, I would just play it. Life is too short! This may be the guitar that feels "just right" to you. I mean, some one is going to put a ding on it someday, so it may as well be you. It's easy to say you could just buy another guitar, but it may not feel the same as this one that you got such a special deal on.
Great Ramp In My Opinion.

I think it will remain in the case for a while longer> I also just bought a 2007 Gibson Les Paul BFG should arrive soon. Cant wait to try that on for size.

I totally agree! You made a GREAT purchase. Enjoy it. Remember the immortal words of Bob Dobbs: "Don't just eat a hamburger, eat the HELL out of it!"

This is an early 360/12V64. Production started around 1985. Form fit case is early and rare for this model. The combo of mint condition and early production adds value. Does the jackplate have "Ric-o-sound" on it? If so, another mark of the early V64; a year or two later this model went to parallel mono jacks (two mono outputs vs. one mono and one Ric-o-sound stereo).

Play it, yes. Gig out with it -- I'd be hesitant.

The jack plate does have "Ric-o-Sound" printed on it. And as I mentioned I have 2 form fit cases. I should have it appraised. Any one know how many of these reissues were made? Thanks Mike

When did RIC stop supplying the form fit cases? My '89 360/12V64 came with that exact form fit case as this one. By the way, the void left by the neck pad is great-my Janglebox fits in there nicely!

More Images would be welcome. Headstock end this time.

What is the SN? That will date it precisely.

Thanks guys for all the views and congrats! It truly is an awesome guitar. When holding a Ric you sure can feel the quality, I can see why there are so many fans. The serial no. on this particular Ric is i0 8013 I believe from my homework making it a Sept. 1987 production. Here are some more pics! Thanks, enjoy!
