Okay, here's a brief update:

John and I have emailed quite a bit over the past week. He's a great guy. We have so much in common I feel like I knew him in high school. If we had gone to the same school, we probably would have been friends...Either that or we would have have been too similar and would have hated each other! :)

Anyhoo, a deal has been made and the bass is effectively his now. He is very excited and has told me that he feels like a kid on Christmas Eve. The weather is keeping me from shipping the bass right now, but hopefully in the next week or two we'll see John post a photo of himself reunited with his treasure.

And I'm good with it, too. It's a great and beautiful bass...But I have other great and beautiful Rick basses, and I'll be okay without it. Plus, I was kinda thinking of thinning my herd out a bit anyway. The problem is choosing which one(s) to let go of. So I'm happy that he found me at the right time and made the choice for me. It was a no-brainer, actually. The bass belongs with him.

Awesome, just awesome! Gonna have to change his handle now though! Can't be 'lost ric' anymore! 'Found Ric' ? :P
Now, who's got my old '69 4001 Burgundyglo, #IA-007? I'll make that a really interesting deal for someone! It's gone 10 years now, and it still haunts me.

I would love to find my original RIC in the link below. Trouble is I have no idea what the serial number was... hell I didnt even know they had serials back then. It was sold to a music store in Edmonton called Keen Kraft, which later became part of the Long and McQuade chain.

Wow, now there's a rare one!

It's not a 1969, but I could help with a '71 4001 Burg.

No kidding! All I know is it ended up at Chicago Music Exchange, and who knows after that.
Wints had a looksee but when The Bass Palace was selling it for me, it was too expensive. Strangely enough, whoever got it never made an announcement anywhere on line that I could find. I'd LOVE to get her back!

Same for my '74 MG 4001 (might be a '75 even, it had a plexi TRC and I've seen a few '75s with them), I have no idea what the serial number is any more. Sold it back in '97 or '98 to pay bills, etc. and would love to have it back. I've got one picture on an old slide. Some day I'll have to get it scanned...

Yep! I'll put them up tonight. Wints has them too, if he comes here today maybe he can put them up first. It was a great bass for sure. VERY dark 'Eggplantglo' , almost black. First-generation green-top bridge pickup, crushed pearl, the works.

Good to see the happy ending in sight here. That Jeffy T...Whatta guy!

Fran's old '69 would be very cool to find. Looked real nice in the pix he sent me, and being a 60's bass, surely one of the first in that BG run.

I love happy endings!

Reading all these tales of lost loves makes me very glad I've kept my 4001 for... what, 35 years, now? That would make me feel old, except when I'm playing that bass I don't feel any older than when I bought it :D
Turn on, tune up, rock out!
