I've always preferred Strand Century ellipsoidals, myself. 8)

I do as well actually.... I own both types... (I have a full theatrical lighting system - 80 dimmers and strand computer board and about 60 lamps a mix of Altmans, Strand and Colortran)... Altman's are made in up state New York.

Of course everything is ETC Source 4's these days...

I am not a graduate, but I trained at the National Theatre School of Canada in Montreal back in the 1980s... (And yes I did have a Rickenbacker with me in Montreal when I was a student there)....

I went from Stage Management, (which is how I got my Equity Card), and eventually ran theatre companies as a director...

Before crashing out of the profession in the mid 90s...
