Ivan, that's Bill Wyman from the Stones. Bill only used short scale basses. I think Dee Dee only used a Precision but for some reason I am remembering him with a Mustang or a Musicmaster...

I concur. He used the Vox Wyman bass and the Framus Star. I don't know the scale length of a Framus Star, but I know a bass Bill designed for Framus (the Humbug) was short scale. The Vox Wyman was obviously made to his specs.

Oh that would explain it, I don't really like to stones, so I have no idea who any of them are!

I'm supposed to play a borrowed mustang bass thursday, visiting with some old music buddies in Memphis.

Aftermath, for me, the UK version. I guess I'm old school

From Let It Bleed-Exile on Main Street, Bill uses his Competition Orange Mustang bass, probably using flatwounds, too. During the middle or end of Exile, the Mustang (along with several other instruments) was stolen from Keith's home studio in Fance, while he was supposedly upstairs passed out or too loaded to pay attention.

Bill replaced the Mustang with another one, same color, and starting from Goats Head Soup in late 1972, he began using a Gibson EB-0, what is today known as the SG bass, and from '75 onwards, he used various short-scale basses, some were custom made, some were really out there. His last tour of the Stones ('89-90) featured him using this odd headless Steinberg (?) bass.

He was playing Travis Beans for a while in the mid 70's as well. Apparently the only 2 short scale Bean's were made custom for him.

At one point he also had a Dan Armstrong plexi bass that matched Keith's guitar.

I'm also a big fan of early Stones. I love a lot of their later stuff as well, but things like Blue Turns To Grey, The Singer Not The Song, Congratulations... love that spooky 12-string sound.

I have to add that I really like Bill Wymans Solo Records from the 70's. Some very cool and overlooked stuff on them.

As it turned out,the bass in Memphis was a white MIJ mustang with a tort pg,and strung with flats! it was well set up,and sounded great! Probly the nicest short scale bass i've played.

I have "Monkey Grip" somewhere. I'll have to dig it out!

I always liked the way Travis Beans look...never played one.

I wrote the company a letter in '76 or so, asking for some literature & they sent

me a catalogue...still have it.
