Fender Mustang Bass

Post by Ivan3000 »

I got my "stang" about a year ago, so I decided to do a little modding to it. I essentially made it look like an old fender jazz bass...but shortscale (I love shortscale).
I was going to get a white pickguard but my parents didn't like the idea of sending it somewhere, so my mom bought a genuine fender mustang bass white pearl pickguard, but it didn't fit...go figure, just my luck
Anyway, I put a tugbar and those metal covers on and it looks sweet. Props to my awsome stepdad Billy for doing the drilling and making the measurements dead on balls accurate. It is perfect. He dosn't know anything about guitars, but he is picking up knowledge of Ricks from me, so he gets pretty involved. Its so nice. I just shoved a peice of foam in the bottom and it works perfectly as a mute.

I take it this is a new one? I have a '95 Mustang in VW, so far all I have done is clean it up, mount an A style Hipshot bridge to it, and put on TI Jazz Flats. I plan on putting Hipshot Ultralite tuners, soon.

Nice!

But ya know, you're way past 30 posts now, so there's no need to bump your post count. Or perhaps you didn't know you can attach up to 4 pictures per post?

I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...

Nice! Ivan, how does you Mustang compare to a MIM Standard Jazz? I have a MIM Jazz and sometimes it's just too big and too bulky.

Lucky for you I have played a MIM stanndard Jazz. The neck, in my opinion, is just as bulky proportionally. Its just a shortscale. Its nowhere close to the hofner, and the width at the nut is a drastic difference than the width at the 12th fret. Also, the intonation on it is very finniky. Its no a slim neck by all means. Hope that helps!
