...the most reliably answer you would get is by removing the most outside positioned tuner and scratch inside the hole a little bit if necessary to remove the finish there.

Nice older headstock w/ larger crest like a 71 :-)
Like John said, 99.9% of the time, or just to double check, the tuner holes, or, as I had it apart, I scraped a little paint away from the centre bridge screw hole to find some lovely Maple and no stripe.

Anyone know where I could find a set of these tuners or even just one? One of the tuners from my '72 just fell apart last night.

thanks!

You can repair it fairly easily; do a search for exploding Grovers.

Yes indeed get a good hard steel nail punch, small enough to fit in the hole. The toughest part is keeping it held in place when you hit it.
Good luck,

Put it in a vice, cushioned by card board and a soft cloth or in a set of locking pliers (also cushioned) held to a table or bench with a clamp.
JETGLO should officially be renamed JETGLO ROCKS! :-)

Actually I found creating a routed out piece of wood held it nicely, then clamp the wood to the bench.
Wood should be safer than metal to prevent issues.
