Lefty Production question

Re: Lefty Production question
Yes the market for lefties is certainly very small. With 10% of the general population being left-handed I am wondering what the left-handed market is for lefties that play guitar?
From our incomplete register the estimate is about 2 percent.
I am wondering what special problems exist in the production of left-handing models?

Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm

I've heard the figure of 1.5% before. Obviously most lefties learn to play right handed instruments.admin wrote:Yes the market for lefties is certainly very small. With 10% of the general population being left-handed I am wondering what the left-handed market is for lefties that play guitar?
As an aside to this, in past years, about 10% of our lefties were ordered with right hand stringing, taking care of those that learned to play with a flipped over right hand guitar. I used to record with someone that played that way and I have to say, especially on an acoustic guitar, it made for an interesting sound as chords were played little strings first.
Re: Lefty Production question
Thanks John. It is good to know that the lefties that remain have a unique contribution.

I resemble that remark: write & throw left-handed, baseball bat, golf clubs, guitars & basses right-handed.johnhall wrote:Obviously most lefties learn to play right handed instruments.

Me too, but somehow I seem to be able to do most things with either hand...iiipopes wrote:I resemble that remark: write & throw left-handed, baseball bat, golf clubs, guitars & basses right-handed.johnhall wrote:Obviously most lefties learn to play right handed instruments.
I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...

Re: Lefty Production question
I write left-handed, but do most things righty. Here's a pretty weird exception though:iiipopes wrote:I resemble that remark: write & throw left-handed, baseball bat, golf clubs, guitars & basses right-handed.johnhall wrote:Obviously most lefties learn to play right handed instruments.

Re: Lefty Production question
True, but there were some that couldn't learn to play right handed such as Hendrix, Cobain and a certain gentleman whom I believe you presented a lefty bass to back in 64'.johnhall wrote:

If there isn't a 12 string Rickenbacker playing at my funeral, I'm leaving.
Re: Lefty Production question
I'm just glad this Southpaw decided that the left hand belonged up on the neck!!

If you said "didn't" instead of "couldn't" I'd agree with you.epitreture wrote:True, but there were some that couldn't learn to play right handed such as Hendrix, Cobain and a certain gentleman whom I believe you presented a lefty bass to back in 64'.

Re: Lefty Production question
"Gibson, is much stranger since they just overload the market with dozens of different lefty LPs and SGs,with little or nothing else available lefty. The prices are the same whether lefty or righty for LPs and SGs but are incredibly inflated for any other rare LH models."
FWIW Gibson is making most models, guitar and bass, available in 2013. Some have already shipped. Not mine tho'. Waiting on my lefty SG Bass.

I see your point. I should have said "didn't".johnhall wrote:If you said "didn't" instead of "couldn't" I'd agree with you.epitreture wrote:True, but there were some that couldn't learn to play right handed such as Hendrix, Cobain and a certain gentleman whom I believe you presented a lefty bass to back in 64'.
