Just got my copy of the book yesterday. It took two days. I pre-ordered way back when you announced that Amazon was taking orders. Be proud. I will point out one discrepancy about the 4003SB. I have one of the first ones that were sold in New England if not the first when they were out. Mine has the one piece pick guard, not the 2 piece one. Even though the truss rods are at the base of the neck. I don't believe that they came in two pieces. The one showing in your book probably has an after market two piece. If you look at the advirtisement page for the ( 3 Legendary guitars, ) you will notice that the lefty model only has one piece. I believe we emailed each other about little tid-bits on this model, but I never sent you pictures and should have. I love your book and all the effort you put into it
Thanks, Ed! As you will read in the SB chapter, there was likely a lot of variation in the brief career of the B bass. It was initially advertised (in Japan, anyway) as the 4001SB, then later as the 4003SB. The one in the advertisements was certainly a 4001S as it has the shedua strip in the neck but not the body (set-neck was standard on the 4001S at that time). It appears that some came with the Rick-O-Sound, some (if not all) with Grover tuners, and I wouldn't be surprised by variation in the one- or two-piece pickguard. Since so few have turned up in my eight years of research, we may never know all the variables. I believe the inconsistencies, as well as the "inaccuracies" of the B bass (assuming it was made to emulate PM's 1964 4001S) drove John Hall to discontinue that model and develop the much more "accurate replica" 4001V63.

You're welcome, Al. Thanks for that great shot of you and your 4003! Can you tell where I tweaked it in Photoshop?

Paul, I just got it, and it is indeed utterly fantastic. I was thrilled to see my name in the credits. Humbled beyond belief. Congratulations my friend!

Paul your love for Rickenbacker basses is displayed on every page. Being here from when you started out on this venture, I can see every pic request, every question, every "holy grail" ran down. It is truly something to be proud of.

May we hoist you high on the shoulders of the RickResource community!

All hail Paul Boyer! Hail! Hail! :D

Without all of you, this book would not have been possible. I should be hoisting all of you on my shoulders! But I'm not going to do that because I have this thing with my back . . . .
