Hmmmmmm.... Back on the subject of Midnight blue and Azureglo, when I got my 220 a few weeks ago I thought it was Azureglo because it was so much brighter and lighter (electric blue, really!) than my 330 in Midnight, which looks almost black in normal indoor lighting. I was quickly corrected on my assumption, as there were no Azureglos made in 1992, and Mr. Hall explained that although both were Midnight Blue, they looked different because of the way they were painted--the 220 actually had a silver undercoat sprayed on beneath the transparent blue finish. So there are at least two different shades of Midnight out there....

You know how old SF guys are... Volkswagen blue? I had never heard that before, I guess Azureglo sounds better than WaffenSSglo... eek.

That begs the question, John, were any Midnight Blue basses made in 1978? Because I hate to sound like a broken record, (scratched CD?) but mine is a dead ringer for Midnight Blue, put next to a new one you cannot tell them apart.

Well, sorry it took so darn long, but here are the pics of my new '76 (Sept.) 4001 AzureGlo. I was waiting until I got all of the new parts for it and put it all together.
Here it is as I got it.
Here it is as I am about to remove the pickguard.
Here is the cavity with the guard off. Is that the dreaded .0047 cap?
And here it is, all done!

Good job, Steve! It looks so much better now. Azureglo is the best RIC color ever IMHO. The very first Ric bass I ever saw in person (about 1977-8) was blue, in a jazz band that played in my high school, and I thought it looked amazing.

Thanks for the pictures with the white pick guard...I now sigh heavily remembering my AzureGlo 4003. I too favor AG as the best Ric color ever! (Volkswagon Blue as I recall John Hall reflecting a few weeks back?)

If, by chance, my 4001 and Sergio's 4080 were left out of their cases, unsupervised, would it produce something like this?
Except in AzureGlo, of course....
