There were 38 Rednecks produced, 11 of which were 8 stringers.

Cool. I was not aware of the Guitar Center connection. 38 Rednecks? I am ready for one.

Hey Jeff!

Care to share the S/N with us to see where it fits in??

So far, only '86 models show up, but I understand that there may be later models....

My Shadow is ZI2577, manufactured September 1986. Seems to be a popular vintage around here.

Is the 4 digit part of the serial number really a sequential number? Sometimes they seem random and other times, like here with the Shadows, they kind of make sense.

In the past the numbers ran sequentially, at least for a month at a time, sometimes longer. In some years the numbers increased, in others they were decremented. As such you can't infer the actual production sequence unless you have access to the full database scheme.

Since 1998, however, the last three numbers will appear to be entirely random, generated by the computer to make the number unique, but like credit cards, there's a validation process involved for the whole number. I added this code to the software when we discovered serial plates being routinely forged by someone.

I might add that I'm not a fan of publishing serial numbers, at least of somewhat historic instruments, but it's your instrument and perhaps I'm overestimating the risks, having been burned on this more than once.

Is nothing sacred? I haven't heard of people forging input jacks on Rics, but I've always wondering about the ones floating around on ebay.
I concur with the problems of publishing serial numbers, too many thieves out there.

Maybe it would be best to just post the first 2 characters. The rest don't matter much anyway. Year and month should be enough for our purposes.
