I also don't have much out of the ordinary except for my 730L-12 in FG. I'd like to bring mine to compare with Paul's that he put the pickguard on.

Also, my acoustic's fingerboard is unfinished. Paul said his was finished with CV.

For those of you who have RIC acoustics, are your fingerboards finished with CV? I wonder if mine is unusual?

Mine is unfinished as well... as I like it. Like to do more unfinished fretboards on some electrics one day...

My 730L/12 has a finished fretboard.

I have only restored a few older Ricks which had unfinished fretboards; Combos and a 1000. My preference is for the finished. It's beautiful and easier to keep clean.

Paul,
What do you recommend to keep an unfinished fingerboard clean without darkening the wood?

An unfinished fretboard needs oil. Oil darkens wood. The hardwoods that Rick uses are all fairly oil-rich, but oil will darken them slightly. I'd use Watco Danish oil (a blend of tung, linseed, and solvent) according to the directions on the can. Be sure you buy the uncolored (clear) type.

For preservation, I still recommend Dr. Stringfellow. You can use this between string changes, and it'll help your wound strings to stay supple. Then when you change strinmgs, wipe it down with the Watco's.

You can get Watco's at home centers, hardware stores, and paint stores.

Didn't see the previous posts on the acoustic fretboards...

My Laramie came to me in incomplete condition from RIC, John Hall thought that I might "have some fun" with it.

When I got it, the neck and body were separate, but the neck and fretboard had already received a coat of sanding sealer, Rickenbacker factory-style. So I finished the 'board at the same time I touched up the body and neck.

A Rickenbacker acoustic with a varnished fretboard is something to behold!
