showoffs! Hey what does the fifth knob do balance the pickups? I would really like that.

Marc,
The 73 from last night I think went to Mike G in Arizona who was smitten by it. I think in the end it went for about $2300.

I agree v63's seem to be climbing, even Mapleglo is fetching north of $1700 lately. There again the v63 is one of the nicest sounding and playing basses in the Ric arsenal.

The fifth knob (element!) is a "mixer" control for the pickups. Electrically it is a second volume control for the neck pickup that does not have the third lug grounded so when it is turned fully ccw the pickup is not grounded out.

Wow! what model is that? The fifth Element?

I would need to see the circuit. But essentially if it is a pickup blender, is that synonymous with balance?

Jim,
I urge you to play a C64S. The sound, tone, playability and feel are second to none in the Rick arsenal. I have not played a C64. The '64S is outstanding.

Did you see the movie "The Fifth Element"? Very funny Sci-Fi. A must see for any science fiction or Bruce Willis fan. Or any one else for that matter!

Check out the schematics on RIC's website for any guitar with the fifth control knob and you will see what it is. For example:

Scott,
I'd love to try a c64s, they look great, only drawback, I can't get a Fireglo one, and yes I have asked the factory if they'd build me one, and the meanies said no !

Bob Scott just got himself a shiny new "S" type, Bob, we need pictures and a play report please !!!

I didn't get back to him either. Unless my ears were deceiving me Tuesday I could have sworn he said 1995 euros. A one doesn't sound like a two...

Like Marc said, I think he completely underestimated the demand and saw the opportunity to make some extra $$$. Can't blame him personally, but this seems to have been one of the more difficult deals.

Hopefully, buyer and seller are now happy....

I don't understand that, it looks like two different volume controls for the bass pickup just one is 500k and the other 250k, can both shut off the bass pickup Jeffrey? Both are grounded in that schematic.

You're right about the grounding, I have seen schematics where it wasn't grounded! In that case they are just two volume controles in series.

This how they used to look, notice the older look to the printing.
