Happy Birthday Nate!
Keep on playin' that Rick. If there's one pearl of wisdom that I might be able to offer at this juncture in your bass playing career it would be this: You've read the stories of many of the older forum members who had their first Rick, then sold it and moved on to the next bass only to regret that decision. If you ever get the itch to "move on," I'd say keep the Rick. Save up, buy something else if you want to...but don't trade in the Rick.
You're a good kid, Nate. We've all enjoyed your contributions to the forum. Keep it up.

I got my first Rick when I was 20. From age 14, when I first lusted after one, it seemed like a VERY long time.

Yeah, happy 'day Nate...
I bought my RM1999 as my first proper bass at 17 this week in 1981. It was our 25 year anniversary a few days ago.

Sean, the earlier photo of me with the 4001 in front of my bedroom door was taken in late 1980. The Kiss posters had been up for a while already. There is one large newspaper Kiss logo, which advertised the first Kiss concert in Adelaide, South Australia on 18 November 1980. Tickets were $10.50 and considered very expensive back then! Oh, the trivia I have stored in my head!

At 17 (1970) I was touring as a roadie with a pro band, one of my main jobs involved "Rizzlas", hopefully nobody took any incriminating photos!!!

At 17 (1978), I saw the best live show of my life: Elvis Costello and the Attractions with opening band Rockpile (featuring Nick Lowe and Dave Edmunds). Costello was at his frantic pigeon-toed best in a sweaty ill-fitting suit. Nick Lowe was playing a white Fender Precision bass in his green suit with dollar signs. Brilliant!

I was 19 when I saw the best live show of my life.
This guy along with a few other good musicians in Philly in 1976.

Lol! Well, I'm hopin fer that this year, but if it doesn't happen, well, least I'll be legal then.
Yes, I got my Rick as my first proper bass in April '04, I was 15. Of course that month was also the bass's 28th b day. I'm never goin to sell my 4001. It's a bit beat up (chips, scratches, finish checking, worn frets) but I could always fix it up to be put in workin order again. That's what I want to do if I ever get enough money to make that Geddy Lee tribute thing to it. Sure, it'll be a couple of nasty mods, but since I'm never selling it, it doesn't matter.
Andrew.. yer makin me drool over that RM. Now I want an all white bass.. lol.
Funny thing is.. the dream I had on last night had one of Rath's 4-2-5 basses in it. I really want one of those.

Happy day Nate. On my 17th (1982) I was 20 rows from The WHO watching them open their US Tour in Washington, D.C....my ears are still ringing, LOL..
It was also my two-year anniversary of 4001 ownership with my JG lefty '79...YES it felt cool to own one when Geddy used his all the time!!
