Yes the XJS suspension and handling adapted depending on speed, and conditions, but you still develop tunnel vision as you go faster.

Jim, my friend had a 76 factory manual XJS back in the early 80's. We saw close to 90 in second a few times and well over 130+ on regular trips up and down the M1. Being just in our early 20's at the time, I remember doing stuff that would scare the s*ite out of me today.

I had a powder blue '70 XJ6 also with a manual box and that thing never broke down in 6 years. It was totally reliable and carried myself and 4 friends around the country at well over 100mph many times.

The Lucas electrics became marginal when the A/C system and aftermarket stuff was added.

Oh yes I agree you do! I think it is directly related to self-preservation. Image I think Wints statement - "I remember doing stuff that would scare the s*ite out of me today" nails it! :D ;)

Pshaw . . . I remember riding to Nuremburg with Rene Schaller in his Mercedes at 240 K/H in a snow storm. When I casually asked about the ABS brakes, he demonstrated with a full-on stop on the icy autobahn.

The sad, ironic thing is that he was killed in an accident at about 40 K/H . . . in a Jaguar just like Jim's.

My next door neighbor had a '74 E-Type just like this one a few years back, Old English White, the whole deal:

It was so cool to watch the nose of this car lift up when pressing the throttle to the floor----already at 120 mph. Rock steady at that speed, and just a stunning ride.

Andy, I really love those Series I XJ-6 Jags, I'd like to find a decent one sometime in original condition.

We sure did! JH - thats ONLY 150 mph! :D

So, to get it back on track, how that new bass working out for ya? Matt, you forget, Jags are British and the bass is a Union Jack design! We weren't too far afield.

the bass is great John A...I went to my local music store to try out some amps but I went directly after my classes so I was sans Rick. I asked to try some amps but explained I didn't have my bass so the clerk asked me what kind of bass I had...I told him a Rickenbacker. He looked at me and said "well nothing in here will match that". I laughed...it felt good knowing that my Rick was a hundred times better than any bass in the place. So I ended up trying a fender rumble 100 with a Geddy Lee jazz. Now I know for sure that Rickenbacker makes the best basses in the world because that Geddy jazz couldn't even touch my Rick in terms or tone(duh) or even playability. Everyone always raves about the Geddy jazz neck and say it's the best they ever played but I didn't like it at all...I'll take a rick neck over a Geddy jazz neck any day of the week. I can't believe Geddy gave up the 4001 for a jazz. The amp I tried was pretty good though. it's A 100 watt 2x10 and it only costs 449$ canadian and the music store is having a moving sale so they are paying the tax...I think that's a pretty sweet deal. I'm going to go try it again tomorrow and I'll bring the Rick.

And since Mr. Hall posted in my thread I would just like to say...Mr. Hall you really know what you are doing when you build a bass...Ricks are THE BEST basses out there and I will never play anything other than a Rick so long as I live.

If it's Musicstop in Moncton, you might ask them if they have any amp covers which will fit. They had a bunch kicking around last year & gave me one just for asking.
If you're buying something fairly serious they don't seem to mind throwing in the odd extra to keep you coming back.
A couple of the young guys there seem to have some Rick knowledge, too.

Sorry to intervene guys, but as much as I like sports cars, when you are lugging an Ampeg stack around and want total protection for your Ricks on the road its got to be a Volvo V70 auto estate . Also doubles as a hotel room if you have a fall out with the better half.
I do like Jags though and they seem to be in favour in the prog rock world Rick Wakeman has one and Ian Anderson used to run an XJ also.....
Now back to the basses............
Too many basses is an oxymoron

If you drive a Jag, you probably have people to lug your gear for you!

I've got an old, beat up Blazer. It hauls gear & leaves more money for guitars!

I got the fender rumble 100...it's pretty good for the money...I can shake my house with it. It was 499$ and was pretty much the best amp I could afford. I wish they made small all tube combos but solid state will have to do untill I can get me an svt. When I went to try the amp I whipped out the rick and there was lots of looks of admiration...one guy was in total awe of my bass he kept coming over and talking to me it was funny. Ricks sure do get lots of attention.
