I agree, but a 1969 would have been better than 72-73. I have several people at work telling me to sell the 64, and I'm considering it, but I'll keep the other no matter what.

that's one ugly coil ! any life in the coil as far as resistance ? might be able to wire brush the screws. don't attempt to remove them...probably break the winding if it still works. if it's dead...send it off to sergio.

Cool Randy. It's great when you see an original bobbin still with these 60's basses. They are very scarce.

Be very careful with the polepieces if you attempt to clean them. Put a meter on the leads and see if there's a resistance. Even in that condition the windings might be sound. They actually don't look too bad...

Yeah, John, and Randy was kind enough to send the two others to me!

Yup...top and bottom lip.

no wonder the coil forms are so brittle.

Well, it was a busy weekend going through years of junk in the garage. I had a little time and I can't get an resistance on the coil from the 64, but I didn't have too much time to spend on it. The lead connected to the coil wire was broke off. I tried to solder it back on, but may not have got enough enamel off of the wire for it to make a good connection. The next two weeks are going to suck at work, so it may be a little while before I can get back to it. It's waited this long, a few more weeks won't make a difference.

Now for the good news. I found this!



The rear pickup from the white bass. I had no idea I kept it, but I guess that's one of the good things about being a pack-rat.

the bad news is it doesn't have any resistance on it either.

broken leads are common, especially when removing the pickup. possibly broken off at the end of the coil wires where it meets the harness. that would be good news. any further in ...bad news. although i got lucky unwinding an '81 coil about 20 turns to get continuity.
