Happy birthday Nate!
Here's a pic of myself at about your age with my first Rick in the late sixties. This one had a horse shoe PU.

Hey, concert tickets were $10.50 here back in 1980 also! Then again, so was a quart of vodka.
I remember seeing Bryan Adams OPEN for Loverboy in '81 or '82! He put on a great show.

She'd be worth a pretty penny now!
The only new one I've ever seen was an FG 4003 back in '96 I think. I needed a backup to my 4000 & I was looking at Fenders. It was $1595 Cdn., but all I had was around $600, so I ended up with a refinned '71 Tele bass.

At 17, got my head kicked in, so all a bit vague up to that point. Never forgot how to play "Siberian Khatru" though!

At 17, I was . . . uh, a year younger than I am now . . . and frantically filling out college application forms! I did have my Ric to keep me company though.

At the age of 17 I saw a Ric bass "in person" for the first time... it was an Azureglo. Until then I saw them only in pics or on TV. It took me another 11 years until I actually owned a Ric (a '73 Jetglo 4001).
Oh, and when I was 17, Hofners were about $100 and some times you couldn't give them away.

Wow.. concert lists!
I've seen (in order)
Heart (yes, Heart!), Roger Waters, Kiss, Rush and Yes. Not that many, but the middle three were my favorites.
I've seen a couple Rick basses in pictures before I got mine. Notably McCartney's, Roger Waters', and Geddy's. Actually, I asked for a Rick before I could even play, but my dad said "They went out of business and are hard to find". LOL. Show's what he knows. Took me two years after I started playing to get my Jetglo 4001. It's my only bass now. I sold my others. The sounds produced by them were "inferior" to my ears. I played my 4001 and Dean Edge 5 string back to back and the sound change was terrible. I sold the Dean the next month.
