I gotta be me yet again, and post another bass related video. This one is of Sweet, and it is their last hit in that line-up:

The old link I used before didn't work, but I found another one. The lead singer and drummer are no longer with us.

As I noted prior, the sound is pick (95% sure) but in the video he's not using one for some reason. Again, you hear that vintage Ric tone, but more flat wound than round wound I think.

I always thought that the Beatles did some of the best covers of Chuck Berry, Little Richard, and King/Goffin early hits. What a rockin' band. I just can't get over the irony of a band from a foreign country exporting back to the US our own roots music. And doing it as well as the original artists.

The other thing I like about these two cliips is that they show George rockin' out on his Rick 12. Truly inspiring for me. The Beatles always seemed to be having fun. At least watching them always brings a smile to my face, and reminds me once again why I want to be in this business.

The second live video is fascinating and, we suspect, one of those very rare occasions when Harrison, for whatever reason, held on to the 360/12 OS to play a lead. Great performance.
We are fascinated by this venue, and if you search the net for almost any of the British Invasion bands, you can find a video of them at this location. We can't figure out if there was one "Mega Show" where everyone appeared, or whether this was an established show that just brought different acts in, from time to time. If anyone knows, and there are many Brits on this forum, we would be interested to hear that explanation.
On that same vain, we have searched the net for hundreds of these old performances, in part because we are guitar historians, but also because we just like music from this era.
We think this performance by the Fortunes may be the single most impressive thing we've found, given the complexity of the song (especially the harmonies) and the limitations of sound reproduction back then. Note this is the same venue.
On the record, there was an orchestra backing the band. You don't miss it here, and that's part of the brilliance of the performance. Admittedly, you should ignore the haircuts, but the knee action is cool.
Rod Allen, the lead singer, passed away in January.

When this tune was first release some thought it was "that other band" we know and love!

I still say they were just a front to cover the song as the Beatles didn't want to promote it! Or at least the Knickerbockers had John in to sing lead on the track.

We recognize Beverly Bivens, but none of the others. Can anybody tell if the bass player was playing guitar in the other video (on pg. 1)?
