YouTube Rics

Post by rickosound »

There are YouTube videos all over the web that feature Rics. Let's make this a posting site for those that haven't been placed elsewhere in this forum. We've limited our opening entry to live performances, but it's interesting to see Rics in any historical context, from any era.

Yes, that's Joe Walsh playing slide on a Rick 230 Glenn Frey signature model on the "Hell Freezed Over" tour. Nifty! It's funny, at the intro to that recorded concert, Glenn Frey says, "We didn't really break up, we just took a 14-year vacation." Well, it's been about 14 years since he said THAT! Can it be? I like their new album - check it out.

Hey, you can't play slide on a Rick!

Joe Walsh never ceases to amaze me with beautiful, melodic songs. This, obviously, is one. JGRA album was full of them.

We feel like Ric archaeologists, digging for this ancient stuff. It was a "Snow Day" here in Kansas City today. Here's what I dug up, while I was fending off boredom.
My dad remembers the old Hollywood Palace show which, according to him, was on ABC on Saturday nights. He was stunned to see this. His response-
NOBODY played live on this show, much less a rock band. The song is You Were On My Mind, originally done by Ian and Silvia. If you've ever heard their version, you know the We Five rendition stands as one of the best interpretations of a song in the Rock Era. The two sound almost nothing alike.

Ric appears to be a 360/12.

It most certainly is a Ric 360/12 string. One of my favorite songs of my youth.

Wow! That was great! I remember thinking the gal singer was hot back when I was 16. Fortunately, I still think she's hot. Great performance considering done on live TV, all the harmonies and the playing.

Yeah, man ~ Beverly Bivens of We Five. I mean, how many of us growin' up in the 60's had a crush on her, eh? There is a Rickenbacker connection, of sorts. She was born in Santa Ana, California and attended Santa Ana High. Groovy vid. I've had it listed in my YouTube faves for some time. Can't seem to get enough of "You Were On My Mind." Thanks for sharing.

This clip by Daniel Earwicker, as do all of his clips, captures the quintessential Rickenbacker vibe. Best regards....Goofyfoot.

Though I am no expert, especially on the Rickenbacker...I have a few videos on You Tube if you want to hear what a 360-12 with Toasters running into a Fender Hot Rod Deville 4-10 sounds like. Some folks seem to like the sound! -BC

Welcome to the forum, Buddy! I found your videos a while back while doing some searches for Ricks on YouTube and enjoyed them, then and now.
