If the tax you paid is higher than that in NC would you get a refund?
Nope, but I think I'd have to shop in Texas to get a refund :)

Very beautiful. I never imagined I'd own a blue one. Looking forward to Friday afternoon and the brown truck here.

That post '97 "humpy" pickguard is hideous though. It's also been installed off center toward the G string side by 1/16". I'm about to take it off, trace an '88 guard profile on it, and reshape it till I get around to making a vintage style guard. I have a RIHS pickup and newly replated vintage surround to go with it for the bass. I'm also going to "unbutton" the neck pickup and put a toaster cover on it, install a C64 tailpiece, tuners, silkscreened plexi truss rod cover, and maybe rewire it to vintage specs. If anyone's interested in any of the left over parts, let me know. As a side note, the bridge pickup was installed crooked and the bass was tuned a full step flat with lots of relief in the neck.

How much of the full step could be new strings and shipment? So I'm guessing we should prepare for a setup on arrival.

+1

Interesting about the pickup and guard being crooked. One probably forced the other though.

Not really. These were two separate things that weren't quite right to my eye. I've finished reshaping the guard and polishing the edges. Much better now.

beatbyrd wrote:Great deal on the bass, for those who took advantage of it. I was toying with the idea and called them on Monday. I asked how many they had and was told that they were not allowed to disclose quantities. The gentleman then said that they had a "couple of handfuls", which I took to mean between 10 and 20 (2 sets of 5? 2 sets of 10?). I am hoping that they stay where they are and do not move to CA. They will have to charge sales tax and will lose a bunch of business, at least from me. Also, their experienced reps are pretty flexible with discounts, if you speak with the right ones. I'd have to look more closely at Samash.com (which I believe is in Florida) if MF moves. Congrats to all of the new bass owners. Tom
It's already a done deal and many good people have left in the last few weeks. In fact, 100% of the people we've been dealing with there have chosen to move on elsewhere.

With Musician's Friend, you're already paying sales tax in Utah, Indiana, Missouri, California, and Washington State. However, it's a moot point, as I personally think you'll be paying sales tax on online purchases in every state within a year. Obviously no one is paying the use tax they are supposed to be paying now, so it just has to change.
Well, not every state.

Some states don't have sales tax. I recall travelling through Oregon and some bloke behind the counter telling me that I wasn't getting charged sales tax because I was "in God's Country now". :D

The sale must be over because MF didn't email me back the sale price. Argh. MID is one of my fave colors.

In Michigan if you but from an online seller or a catalog and that store has a brick and mortar location in Michigan you pay Michigan sales tax.
