That '64 is outstanding.
I've been a Ric bass fan since the early 80's, obviously way, way before ebay, etc. My point in referencing that is that I've probably only seen two 60's basses for sale in my entire life, prior to ebay.
I suppose if I guy was looking, he could have contacted a vintage music retailer, etc. I'd watch the newspaper classifieds, Nickel Ads, etc. Almost never saw one for sale.

That last pu is a '73, based on the large magnet. Very cool!
This thread has been fun!

Very possible, but I haven't seen one either way yet. I may take a closer look in the register.
OK, I just looked. I couldn't find a '72 with the larger magnet. Unfortunately a lot of the pix have the cover in place. I did find a Jan '73 FL 4000 that had a small magnet, but no others from '73 that I could tell. A FL 4000 was probably pretty special, so it may have been a lay-over from '72.

Wow, what a nice surprise to find that your '68 is actually a '64!!
I have a '72 with a darker FG, but given that the binding is yellowed, I'm guessing it is from smoky bars!

The clearcoat on the bass yellowed with age, that is why the binding looks like that; the rest of the bass is too, it is just easier to see it on the white binding.

It's been a while since I've been on the forum. I'm in the process of cleaning out old boxes from our old house that I had In storage. I finally got my workshop built and have a place to put SOME of the stuff. I almost tossed out this entire box, but glad I took some time to go through it. Found the jackplate from my white Rick. The serial confirms it was made in November 1972. Guess it pays to be a pack rat sometimes. (My wife might disagree with me!

).
Since I'm back, how would one go about getting a hold of the guy that rewinds the old coils? Sergio if I remember correctly.
Thanks for any assistance.
Randy

Check out the Winding Up With The Best section of the forum, you will find Sergio's contact info there.
Your jackplate looks more like it is from a special version of a Lemmy bass, one with ROS.
