4001 Mounting plate differences?

Will the old unscooped mounting plate prevent me from lowering the action on my '81 4001? and if the new scooped version is better will it fit the old screw holes? I need to fix the mod on my new bass. It currently has a white plastic cover (yuck!)

You can tell if the unscooped surround will interfere by seeing if your strings clear the thickest dimension, if so then no problem. The distance of the fingerboard to the top surface of the body has varied so you need to look at your particular bass to judge this.
