Surprise! 4004 Cii Blue Boy at Sam Ash...
Stopped by the Sam Ash in Clearwater Florida this morning. Was STUNNED to see a Blueboy Cheyenne on the wall!
It's used, a 2004. They want $1200 for it...I picked it up, and put it though a Hartke rig with 4 10's...
Action sucked-really high. But I was just looking for the difference in tone compared to my Laredo. It was definitely a warmer tone, so I'm glad I went for the Laredo-I wanted to retain as much of the Rick "growl" as possible from the humbuckers, and I figured the Laredo would be brighter (as well as that general description being around).
Kind of ironic that I had never seen a 4004 in person until my own got delivered on March 7...and less than 3 weeks later I see one in Sam Trash, of all places...go figure.
And I know I'm asking for flames, but I really don't like that Blueboy color. With such nice woods used in Cii's, why cover it up with an opaque finish?

Sorry - I'm an idiot. My brain saw Blue Boy and thought Blue Burst.
I agree with you Ed - the woods used in the 4004Cii are so nice that I wouldn't be looking to get an opaque finish like Blue Boy. I have one ordered in Blue Burst which should allow the wood to show through, (although it will probably mask the nice contrast between the maple and walnut to a point).

The great thing about Cheyenne IIs is that anything is attainable.
Set up right a Cii can sound just like a 4001, on the other end of the scale, its Walnut accounts for a lot of deeeeeeep end, which some all-Maple Rics can't manage.
I might have to check it out as that's not too far from me. I love the BB colour but have to agree on a bass with cool wood it defeats the object. I think they suit the 4003's more personally.
SA had a Midnight blue fretless a while back that I just missed, but whenever I've been, there is usually nothing of note there...

Where do you live Andrew?
If I had a digital camera I'd certain try to get a pic, but alas...can't get to borrow one anytime soon. Was that a fretless 4003 that SA had?
All in all that store is pretty weak, except for it's size. Very large amount of stock.
Mark...I can see your point. But the Laredo has plenty of "deep" for me so far...if I had the $, I might be tempted...but I will just have to wait for the next GAS attack.
With a good set up I'm sure that bass would be fine, as aside from the high action it felt every bit as good as mine. I did notice that the tone pot had a detent at the midpoint. Is that a Cheyenne feature that Laredo's don't have, or might it be a mod?
