John Kay Limited Edition Model 381JK

Post by clearblue »

Was channel surfing and stopped on a public station where they were featuring a John Kay performance. He was playing his Limited Edition 381. Nice to see his RIC in action.

He really loves his guitar. His only has two differences from the stock model. First, it has a wireless system built inside to make it easier to use in performance. Second, the binding along the top edge of the fingerboard is different- in fret segments where there normally would be a marker, it's entirely black. He's legally blind and this special high contrast setup greatly helps him see where he is on the fingerboard.

Interesting. I knew his sight had been getting worse when I saw him and his band in the late 70's at a small club in the midwest. One of the best performances ever!
