How many Highgains?

Post by morrow »

I have heard that the highgains that are in the 4003 are not the same as the first 4001 version. I have read that there were at least three versions. Can anyone clear this up for me and let me know which versions came out when and what the differences were?
Thankyou

A 70's high gain was wound to 7 or 8k ohms ... a modern high gain is wound to 11k ohms ... a 90's 4003s5 high gain is wound to about 15k ohms ... a toaster is wound to 7.4k ohms ... an hb1 is wound to about 15k ohms ... v63 horseshoe about 13k ohms ... c64 horseshoe about 11k ohms ... 60's horseshoe about 7k ohms ... I might be slightly off on the horseshoe numbers ...

Both of my V63 horseshoes read about 10.5K Ohms

Thanks ... I can't keep all of those numbers in my head ...

the bottom line is the newer pickups are louder and fuller sounding than the old ones ... also in the new basses the bass cut capaciter has been removed which makes the bass louder and fuller sounding as well ...

I have an '80 4001.Which would be in it? I am curious. I have done the cap bypass.

I would guess somewhere between 8 and 11k ohms ... the early 80s was a transitional period ...

More likely 8k, I don't think they changed them until late 1984.
