Joe Osborn flatwounds part 2

Post by johnashfield »

I put on the Joe Osborn 45-106 set this evening. They feel awesome, and have a nice thunk even unplugged. I'll have to wait until rehearsal to see what they sound like on my modified 4003.

The Fender flats just got to be too much, they sounded pretty decent but they felt like cables from the golden gate bridge or something. I took them off and put on a set of rotosounds. And I just could not take it. It was pingy and piano like, and that's cool, but not what I wanted! Going back to roundwounds also felt weird because they seemed so "grabby", like sliding on them was harder.

The Osborn's feel about the same tension wise as the rotos.

So rehearsal this week will tell I guess!

Fender flats are nice if you play a real lot and very hard, if you don't they will seem like phone cables. I used to use them when I was playing constantly, you get strong enough to where they feel good after a while and others feel wimpy. They have a nice thump to them and you can really play hard and not bottom out with them.

Those Osborn flats are really nice. Really well defined sound, not just thump. I took mine off to try some rounds and can´t find them now. Where did I put them? :-D
I´ll have to buy another set.
