Feature-article in Norwegian newspaper

Post by ericxavier »

Hi ! I've been following the chats and debates in this forum for some time, and with great interest. Being an old Searchers fan ( old - well - 52 . about the age of some of you most faithful contributors I have noticed)I thought I should come forward and participate now and then. To the point: I am a journalist with the Oslo-paper "Aftenposten" (big daily w 2 editions a day), and, last fall, I realised one of my dreams, I persuaded the editors to pay me a trip to the UK to interview the Searchers. My feature-story ran in the feature section in the Sunday-edition, Dec. 2. (2001), title, (in Norwegian) "With old rock-gods on the stage". I met and saw the band in Plymouth and in Bournemouth, mid-november. The journalistic idea was the "phenomenon" of the old beat groups that still carry on, (and very well indeed). We also took some nice photographs, but dont ask me (yet, anyway) to put them out on the forum - I wouldn't know how to. ( Maybe w. assistance?) - In short: the band was great, and they were, as I suspected, really nice. Friendly, intelligent and funny to talk to. Had long talks with esp. Frank before both concerts, about almost every topic on their career etc. The article is a, well, typical feature story, re-telling things you folks would know very well of course. I had seen them before, in '97, in the norw., town Skien ( a summer-festival), and I think they were even better now. The shows were a delight. Mr. Allen the joker even introduced us ( me and the photographer) from the stage, even saying a few words in norwegian ( how?: It appears one of his best friends lived long time in Stavanger as a pro-footballer ( and later coach), with Viking Stavanger.
I will stop here, for now. Have also been in mail-contact with country-man Einar R. in Trondheim ( as many of you will know). If any of you have any questions about the article or my talks with Frank ( and also John and Spencer ) please shoot.
Best regards to all of you, Erik Bjørnskau.
PS : Favorite Searchers -song? Almost impossible. Walk in the room; yes. Needles, of course. But I also love songs from the Sire-albums and the RCA years (Desdemona, World is waiting for tomorrow. And Western Union! And folks: The bands version of "In this life" is absolutely astonishing, just beautiful. The concerts were so good. It's fantastic they are still so good!

Erik: Welcome to the Searchers' Forum. I will contact you directly about your article. A most interesting story.
