What are your favorite 'sound suckers' ?
I've been using Pyramid Golds lately and really like them. I wanted some opinions of the different flat wounds that people here are using.
I've tried a few set's, I like the Pyramids the best, and the Chromes 2nd. The Chromes are a little too bright for me for the first few weeks or so, but they break in nice. Third, I would say the Labella Deep Talkin,' very nice old school sound. The GHS and Ernie Ball's were just ok. The Roto's I didn't like at all, very high tension, and the Fenders were nice but too much tension. To me, the TI's lacked in low end, not much thump, but the midrange was very good, after they broke in they sounded really nice. But hearing recordings from a few gig's I did with them, when I played a little hard I could hear them hitting the fret board. Poor technique on my part, but I don't hear that with other flats. I keep coming back to the Pyramids. I have over 2 years on one set, still going strong and a little over a year on another set. I even put a set on my Gretsch Broadkaster, they are killer. But that's the sound Im after. If you are looking for YOUR sound, you have to go out, spend a few buck, and try as many brands as you can. Give them at least a month or so to break in before you judge them.

I've got bridge cable Fender 9050 ML's on my J Bass and 4001...
I'm contemplating going to the TI Flats on the 4001. The J seems to handle the high tension well.
So does the 4001, but there might be a little much relief on the neck. Just put new 9050's on it, so I'm not really in a hurry to change yet.

sorry guys ... I was gigging this weekend ...
it was a very nice venue ... Monterey music cafe ... it is one of the nicest venues in southeast Michigan ... we use small amps ... 4x12 or 4x10 and we mike everything into a 6000 watt PA and we use the in-ear monitor system so we can hear everything without floor wedges ... and yes I did not use flats ... I have a set ... I am aging them so they will be really dead when I put them on a bass ... they will be ready for use about 2050 ...
