Possible Fake TRC on Ebay

Post by rickaddict »

Hey Y'all-

I thought I'd pass on something that was brought to my attention this morning. I was the runner up bidder on this gold TRC on ebay a few weeks ago:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7316134158

The guy who bought it wrote to me this morning to tell me that the TRC he received from the seller was not the one pictured in the ad, but this fake:

http://home.comcast.net/~badtweed/Artwork/Ricky_Fake_002.jpg

They are obviously not the same TRC. I suggested to him that he should report the guy to ebay and leave negative feedback.

Anyway...I just noticed that the same seller has another gold TRC on ebay using the same photo as he used in his first TRC auction:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7324191072&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1

So again...hopefully I've saved someone here a headache. I can't guarantee the accuracy of this information as I don't know the other buyer well and don't know if an honest mistake was made, but I know I'll be staying away from this auction.

That's the poorest excuse for a TRC I've ever seen. It would've been less insulting had the seller just mailed an empty box.

That is one bad faker. Didn't even attempt to smooth out the edges. Almost looks like he cut it after he painted it. And he should be thrown in the Federal pen for doing such a lousy job of writing USA.
Is everybody ready?

A Rickenbacker bass is much like the Jaguar E car - perennially ultra-fashionable.

...just another great reason to be a member here on this forum...

I've talked with Sergio via e-mail, and he graciously explained the differences between the fakes and real thing....I need to gently take apart my basses and CAREFULLY study the features....but I probably should get a couple of the fake pieces to have something to compare to....THANKS , Sergio.... Here is the response from the seller of the toaster.

I pulled the item after checking my own 70's Univox Rick copy and saw it was the same pickup! I should have recognized the different housing & magnet structure, but I just took a bunch of pics of different items and scheduled them all at once. Even "the hyn" does not claim to be perfect, just honest! No one would ever get burned by me, that's for sure. Bob
