Anniversary 4001s?
I recently borrowed my bandmate's bass for rehearsal, and it struck me as slightly unusual. The jackplate dates it as September '87, it's a neck-through 4001s, and it's finished in silver with black hardware. The bandmate doesn't know much about it, said he thought it was an "anniversary model." Anyone know more?

1987 would have been the 30th year for the Rick bass, but I don't think they specifically identified an "anniversary model" in that year or any other. Silver is a somewhat rare finish, although there has been at least one on eBay recently. I believe most silver finish basses came with black binding, trim, and hardware.
This begs the question whether RIC will produce a 50th anniversary model in 2007. I've got suggestions . . . .

I agree with Carmen. If it has no binding, dot inlays, blacked out chrome, is silver and has a Sep '87 serial number, then its a 4003S. Email me if he wants to sell it! I don't know of any Rick anniversary models...yet. Besides--wouldn't silver be a 25th anniversary?

Hi Ilan, I know it is a personal thing but I really get turned off by ANY gold on guitars. I hate gold hardware, looks really cheap & ‘Bling’ to my eyes.
Have you seen the John Entwistle bass collection book? He had some 1 off’s done of a Fender P, J, Strat & Tele all with gold hardware, I thought they looked bloody awful!
In one of my first bands the guitarist has a Les Paul Gold top, that didn’t float my boat either.
This preference also extends to women. I personally don’t find gold jewellery that attractive, much prefer silver….
