Fret markers on the binding.
i noticed on the 3rd, 5th and 7th frets that the fret marker on the binding is not centered. it's not a big deal, just found it odd that all the others are centered perfectly.

i know what you're saying...but i still don't use em even in the dark bars. plus i was playing with dark shades on. one of the things i always tried to do as a drummer and now as a bassist is to learn the songs as best as i can without looking at the instrument. plus with the motorhead stuff, wasn't a whole lot of moving around the fretboard and i was always looking up! haha..
i'm no "true bassist", not a natural in the last and am very lucky i can even figure out how to plug the thing in. but i can always feel it right when i have to move around the fretboard...that's not to say i don't look at the board at all, cuz i do, just not much.

I've noticed a little variation in the side marker dots on my 4003's. Particularly the distance between the two dots at the 12th fret. Some are real close, others spread a bit. No big deal, just an interesting variation.
I also really like the white binding on the neck to help in the low-light and flashing light situations. The strip of white stands out and just seems to grab my eye a bit better.

Since I broke down and got my glasses I don't have problems seeing the dots, that was one of the big reasons that drove me to finally admit I needed them rather than buying drug store glasses all the time. Entwistle solved that problem by having lighted led's on the side of his neck which were very visible from 10' away where I was standing.

The reason i mentioned the above post was because many of you have not had a chance to compare a 60s 4001"s" to a v63 ,when i was looking for an "s"model i thought how do i know its not a v63,there are many many differences putting them side by side, dot markers was one thing i noticed right away.Truss rod would be a major one ,i was talking cosmetic.would if i found one on the net.now i know what to look for.
