Ed Roman?
Howdy,
I'm new to the forum and have a question. While I've owned many Rickenbackers over the last 20 years, I've never bought one from the controversial Ed Roman.
He's got those Vintage '64 360's (WB) which I've always wanted in a 6-string. Have any of you bought your guitars from him and if so, what do you have to say about the experience?
Respectfully,
Eggman

It's funny, Larry. Ed's name induces a sort of creepy shiver in most people (my guitar dealer included).
You're right- his stock of Rics is usually excellent. Somehow I could never pull the trigger on a buy from him.
Too many horror stories about shaved necks, etc.
Can't speak for the man as a person; perhaps others can.

Hello Eggman and welcome to this great forum! You came to the right place for all things Ric!
The people who reside on this forum are the most knowledgable folks on Rickenbackers that can be found. Even the CEO of Ric comes here to find out what he's doing (JK
).
And now to your question: Yes, I recently purchased a 620/12MB from Ed. My personal experience was very good. I was not hassled by any sales people there and was able to browse in peace. While Ed, himself is, to say the least, eccentric, he has more Rics in his store than I've seen anywhere, bar none.
Although there are signs everywhere that say 'don't touch', I was able to try out the guitar I was thinking of buying. They had no problem with this. Just ask. They will set you up with an amp and let you jam away.
I also got a fair price w/accessories when I bought. The sales person I dealt with was quite pleasant.
I'm positive more folks will chime in here with simular comments and others with not so flattering comments so I guess the best advice I can give you is to experience Ed's for yourself. Good luck

I see music in my head transformed through my fingers but can not write a note...

He's come up more than once!
And should you ever want a purpleburst Schlockmeister 7 string with bronze belt buckle tailpiece, posed with a Vegas hooker, Ed is the only game in town.

Believe it or not, I bought a 370 12 from Ed when he was back east somewhere. I lived in London UK. Saw his website, sent an international money order, had him send to a friend in Pennsylvania. Had no problems of any kind. He easily could have shafted me. I didn't know who he was. But no probs as the Norwegians say.
I shamelessly live for RIC and Roll
Just call him up and talk with Scott. He is a good guy and he wont screw you. they do have the best Ric prices.
I talked to Ed once and he was less than kind, but Scott is a good dude. I would rather buy a quality guitar with no hassles from a person who does not treat me like a pal, than a from guy who pretends to be your best friend and rips you off.

"Home of the $7000.00 Lemmy"
I hate to say it but Mr. Roman may not have been too far off. I had my LK appraised for insurance purposes and it came in at $10K (from a very respected Ric dealer). So since insurance appraisals may be a little on the generous side....$7K may be about right on the open market with some patience.
I've only ever dealt with his shop once....and it was while I was looking to order a Ric (a 2nd LK actually) and I talked to Mr. Roman on the phone. He left me feeling angry....he was rude and condescending. I'd never deal with him now because I can hold a grudge.
As long as you know what you are shopping for and what it should cost there is no reason to not check out his shop....if you can get a good deal go for it. Maybe Ed was just having a bad day when I called ......

Ed is a classic curmudgeon.
The biggest problem with classic curmudgeons is that they know they are, take pride in it, and use it as an excuse to be selfish.
Bad potty training, I say.
Ed's aesthetic preferences bear this out.
