Broken latch on case... aaaaarrgghhh!!

Post by ozover50 »

Well, I've had my first 'Rickenaccident'!! I was showing a guy at work my new 4003 and the case slipped off my desk - oh no!!!

One of the latches has snapped (the part that clips underneath). It still works (and locks) but you need good fingernails or a screwdriver to open it.

Does anybody know if latches can be replaced without ruining the inside of the case and I guess first things's first - are latches available as parts from anywhere?

Any info, advice and especially sympathy would be most welcome. Image

Cheers,

Howard

Thanks, Peter. I've actually got one of those at home and am considering it as a last resort because I'm loathe to drill holes in the case.

Ideally I'd like to get a genuine Rickenbacker case latch if possible. Would putting an enquiry through to RIC Customer Service be of any value, do you think? They may not want to deal with me directly because of the overseas distributor arrangements.

Guess I could always order a complete new case! Image

Howard, is the kind of latch like the Stew-Mac one:

or like the RIC hardshell kind:

The latter is from the Ohio Travel Bag catalog, which can be found at

And you do have my deepest sympathy!

Thanks a heap, Gary (for both the sympathy and information). The RIC hardshell kind is the one I'm looking for. I'll check out the site.

Hmmmmm.... I get 'Server not Found' errors when I try to view any of their online .pdf catalogues. Oh well, I'll keep trying!

Sorry Howard. I don't know why I was thinking older or vintage. Glad to see Gary is on the case.

I will resist latching onto that train of thought ...

Howard, I just checked the web site and had no problem. If you continue to have difficulty accessing the catalog pages, let me know and I can download them as files and e-mail them to you.

Oddly enough, those hardshell case latches remind me of something, but I can't put my finger on what it is ...

It seems some of us here are 'hard cases'. Good one, Gary! Image

I managed to get into the catalogue section by going directly to the site rather than through the link here.

I'll measure up the latch on the case and see if any of them fit the bill.

I was under the impression that the cases are made in Canada somewhere, but I could be completely off the track there.

Thanks again for your assistance, Gary. Much appreciated.

Cheers,

Howard
