80's 4003 pickguards

Post by foolycooly »

Hey fellas,
my '83 4003 has a 2 piece white pickguard. Know anywhere I can get a one piece that will fit? I searched Pickguardian, but didn't know what to look for. Any help would be good. =)

The reason this vintage 4003 has a two-piece guard is that the adjustment nuts for the truss rods are at the body end of the neck. This was the first design of the 4003. Later, they put them back at the headstock end. The idea is that if you wanted to adjust the truss rods, you wouldn't have to remove the entire pickguard (and the knobs, etc.) to get at them. I would call Tony at Pickguardian and see if he can make you one. He's not locked in to his stock items, necessarily.

I need one and have needed one now for a while for my 81 4003, Dan Adamek was going to make me one but I still haven't gotten around to it, he has probably forgotten all about it. I was going to send him mine to make an exact copy. I have heard that the ones you can buy ready made don't always fit right especially the screw holes. I've been in school for the past couple of years yada yada, but I'm out very soon and won't have an excuse.
