Most desirable colours?
Hi!
I was wondering which colours are the most desirable in Rickenbackers as vintage instruments? Are the basic colours more desirable or can the limited edition colours, such as Montezuma Brown etc., become wanted and retain their value or even rise in price? Just curious... being the proud owner of a 620MB...
Ta!

Here's one example of me not likeing Blue Boy: http://www.pickofthericks.com/2004_650c_blue_boy_26868.htm
Another was on the 381.
I liked it on the 4003, 660, 360, and 370.

If by saying most desirable color, you mean the color of the Platonic Ideal Rickenbacker, the most perfectly realized example of a Rickenbacker guitar in the history of the universe, the guitar that is precisely at the nexus of vintage rarity and perfection, the one instrument that would represent Rickenbacker to the world, it would probably be fireglo.
But some people like other colors, too. If someone gave me a choice between a 1965 360 in fireglo and the same guitar in Mapleglo, I'd go with Mapleglo, 'cause I like it.
Is Sea Green a desirable color? Many people dislike Sea Green, but that's probably the rare color I covet the most. I would LOVE a 620 or 4003 in Sea Green. Holy Moley. When I have the money. But, I'd imagine a 4001v63 is much rarer than a 4003, so does that make it more desirable? Depends...
Mike Parks has two C-series 325s, both in Blue Boy, one a six and one a twelve. Reportedly they are one of a kind in the world, and of course, both are expensive! But neither of them would be as 'desirable' as an original Blue Boy from the early 60s.
So I guess it depends on personal preference, the depth of your desire, and the depth of wallet!

Tony, to each his own. For guitars, Blue Boy/Sonic Blue/Daphne Blue has been my favorite color for a long time. You can only imagine how much I freaked when I saw 2004's COTY! Actually, i'll tell you how much - I IMMEDIATLEY ordered a 370/12BB.
Jeff - i've been scratching my head about that one for a while as well.

By the way, the absolute nicest example i've ever seen of a Powder Blue guitar was a Rick - but not a Blue Boy. It's Mark Seligman's 4001 w/ gold pickguard, checkered binding, and light blue body, which can be seen on Pickguardian's website.
I really think i'd do ANYTHING to get my hands on that bass.

I actually find BB somewhat repulsive.. . .least favorite of all the colors.
Tops is (from what I can tell from pictures) Blueburst! I love it. After that it depends on the mood - jetglo for rocking out, MG for more mellow stuff. Fireglo is nice but not for me.
