are you sure ... it is hard to tell from the picture ... it looks stock to me ...

that is a nice clean bass ...

the 4003s5 bass is a nice instrument ... and I like to replace the saddles to get a 2 1/4" bridge spacing to make them more finger friendly ... also the s5 has an overwound treble pickup ... the normal 4003 bridge pickup is wound to 11k ohms ... the 4003s5 bridge pickup is wound to about 15k ohms ... these basses thunder ... I would buy it but I already have 7 5 string ric basses ...

So all 5 stringers came with the open mute assembly, I thought that was one of your creations? Incidently I did a semi-rock gig last night and used my 78 4001 with RW's and it sounded great, I even picked two songs and hand muted one of them.

they must cut the separators to allow for 5 strings.

just like the 4008 tailpiece.

yours is a 4003s8 ... the other is a 4008 ... palm muting is a lot easier with that superstructure removed ...

It's also easier the higher your bridge is set.
