Sacrelige, or just too weird?
I ahve a 96 Fender Strat Plus with the Lace Sensor Gold p/ups, plays great sounds great except for the neck pickup - thin, whiny, pointless. I've been thinking of replacing it with a slimline humbucker when it occurred to me... why not replace it with a Ric hi-gain?
Yes it would probably need routing, pickguard replaced etc - but what the hell, it's only a Fender.. Thoughts anyone?
I love the hi-gains

Put a Lace Sensor Hot Gold in the neck postion. They are really hot and have the punch of a P90 humbucker. Originally designed for the bridge position they work really well in the neck position. The Lacesensor Hot Gold pickup wrings out at about 13.2k
Regular Lace sensor Gold pickups wring out at about 6.0k.
If you put a non traditional pickup style on your guitar you will reduce its value significantly.
I also use Strats so this question is of interest to me.

An alternate suggestion is to put a Seymour Duncan Hotrail in the neck postion. Different tonal range but same overall effect.
While channel surfing last night I ran across an Iron Maiden concert. All three of their guitarists use Hot Rails on Custom Strats. Their music may not be universally appealing but they get a great sound out their guitars.
