I just wanted to offer my humble thanks for the support you guys/gals gave me during last week's 4080 auction on da Ebay. It's nice to know that in a world of dishonesty and no honor, the members of this forum took a stand and helped another brother out. Special thanks to Dave P. for showing me this site and if any of us ever get together, the beer's on me! We can now enter phase two of this mess, which starts off with "if I ever get my hands on that guy"....

Welcome to the Forum, glad to have helped, I know many of us here either wrote to the scammer, or wrote to Ebay, in some cases both.

I hope your 4080 finds a good home, and preferably home with a forum member.

These scammers should know not to screw with the Ric Police.
The same seller later had balls to throw on another 4080 from Mike Parks site. I see now all of his auctions are shut down.

Wow-you guys are great!!! Here's a little about myself:
I'm a high-end vintage guitar dealer and bass collector living near Atlanta,Ga. I've played bass for 20+ years and actually have a deep respect and love of bass guitars, unlike some dealers you may meet that only do it for the money. I met Dave P. at the Philly guitar show recently and my recollection is that he's a mighty fine fellow.Some of the Ricky's currently pissing my wife off:
1972 4001 Fireglo-9.5/10
1973 4001 Fireglo-9.8/10
1973 4001 Jetglo-purchased from Greg Rzab last year 9.2/10
1973 4001 Burgundyglo 9.2/10
1978 4080-You saw it-it carries the curse of the one-eyed parrott
I like 'em with the checkerboard and crushed pearl, although as a high tide raises all ships,I'm currently eyeing the clean 73-75's. Lastly, 2112 changed my life and put me on the path that I am on to this day. Salute to all bassists whose rig is bigger than his guitarist....

Fill me in, please...I didn't follow the 4080 threads that closely. Maybe better if I try to summarize, and if I'm close enough for jazz, leave it that:

Ray (basser-x) had a 4080 for sale, and some scam artist creep lifted the pix from the eBay auction and started his own eBay auction.

That about the gist of the story?

Bob-quit tempting me. Those 73's are like my kids and they are the ones I'm fondest of. Just to let you guys know, I bought a refinned '68 in Orlando earlier this year,but didn't discover the finish issue until after the deal was done. That's how it is at these guitar shows-it's like there's a gun to your head and I, as a dealer have to make decisions on the spot that often involve thousands of dollars. Well, in my effort to be smarter than the average bear, I refuse to take part in that craziness if possible. Back to the '68-After discovering the refin,I walked the bass across the room and sold it to another dealer(who would buy a stump with strings on it if he thought he could make some money) and sold that bass for $4000.00. I must say that I was shocked-I didn't think the bass would bring that, but it did easily with almost no arguement. This all points to the fact that in my not so important opinion,these 4001's and early 4003's are some of the most undervalued basses out there today.What do you guys think?

It reminds me of a guitar shop I use to go to in New Hope PA., over 25 years ago. They had a TON of old Strats. I said to myself then;;;;

$1,200.00, for an early 1960’s Stratocaster?? This guy is crazy, they are not worth half of that.

Mark my words, the Rickenbacker 1960’s to early 70’s, are the last frontier for affordable Vintage Guitars. I bet you in 5 years, a pre 73” 4001 will reach the $10,000.00 mark. The 4005’s are just about there now.
