What amps are being used out there?

Post by modelcitizen »

Just curious on what amp combos people play their Ricks through.

Myself i'm using vintage tube heads (Jansen Bassman 6/35 and Bassman 50 - NZ copies of Fenders; '72 Ampeg V4) into a locally-made ampeg-style 8x10. I've found I get the best tone running flat into a tube head (with plenty of FX to mess up the sound when required!).

Done my dash with various solid-state heads, but have an Eden WT800 for large gigs and to handle touring (when I was)...only problem is that the character of my Ricks is lost through this head without any kind of tube-like preamp, and even then it sounds sterile compared with a tubey. But, reliable and loud! Image

I use an Eden WT-800 with a 2x10 and 1x15. I love the sound, very full, deep and round. Very easy to move around also.

I don't gig, Neil, but I've got this for the lounge room and parties:

It's a WT-400 and XLT 1x15 cabinet. I'm thinking of adding a 2x10.

For small venues, an SWR Baby Blue II combo, for larger venues, a Walter Woods Super Hi Power head with one or two Traynor YS-15 cabinets loaded with Eminence Deltalite 15s. For the times when I want to go really light but have lots of volume and tone I use the WW with a custom 1-10 cabinet with an EV 10BX in it, seen here with my 4001V63.

Here is a close view of the Walter Woods. It is 650 watts rms into 4 Ohms, 12" x 3" x 8" and only 7 lbs.! Image

Fender Bassman 200. Im not giging at the momment tho. When I start i guess im gonna have to grab something bigger. For now 200 is enough to disturb anyone in the house and some around it.

As of today, Ampeg BA210SP. I did not like the sound of my Rick through Eden.

I'm playing thru a GK 400RBIII head, with Alesis compressor and Aphex Aural Exciter for tone tweakage, thru (2) GK 4 x 10 cabs.

Sean, how does the SansAmp / Power Amp combo work for you? I have a spare power amp and am considering that combination for a backup in case I blow my amp. Professionals are ALWAYS prepared for emergencies!! Image (well, and Boy Scouts too, although I was never one of those...)
