I think the 480 was one of the few (perhaps the only) Rickenbackers with a bolt-on neck. There are a number of forumites who are owners, so I'm sure they can verify or otherwise.

The 200 series as well Howard....

I had a 481 for over 10 years. The neck was more resistant to changes in weather and string tension that my neck through body guitars. Really, I don't think I even had to adjust the bridge, to say nothing of the truss rod during that period.

Lee When I worked there in 1975 we made quite a lot of bolt on neck 480/481's. Also the 4080 DBL. neck and the 3000 series had bolt on necks. Alot of them were glued in as well as having a 4 bolt neck plate, this was because of the routed area for the neck pickup left little wood and a neck plate was added for strength.

Hi Howard: sold my 330 (I know, I know) and bought a black 'Noel Gallagher' ES335. I'm not an Oasis fan but it's such a great guitar to play and it'll keep enough variety in my collection to keep me interested until I find/fund the next Ric or similar.

The band is still in rehearsal stage but starting to get some good, tight arrangements in the mix. Our singer Vanessa is 20 and gorgeous with a huge voice and she's taken over on bass which leaves me free to play guitar. Luxury! I've hired every body else with only one strict rule:

Thou shall not seduce/crack on to/put the moves on/invite to the horizontal dance/wave the woody at the singer. Cute girls are everywhere but talented singers are hard to find.

I recently purchased a new ES-335 Dot Reissue (vintage sunburst) but managed to hang on to my Rickenbackers as well, Lee. It is a lovely guitar - takes a bit of getting used to (I find the rather sharp fret ends a little unnerving).

Sounds like the right rule for the band, Lee. If she's that good you don't want to lose her. A few pics of a rehearsal session would be nice!

I hope things go well enough for you to get back into the Rick family soon, although you do mention 'similar'. What might that be, do you think?
