Here's our new web site... not fantastic, but it covers the subject. I'm limited in what I can do becuase its a free site (hence the ads) and am stuck with using a primitive web page builder.
Anyways, comments and/or useful ideas welcome (I think).

Love that quote Kent. Easy site to navigate. Ads suck don't they? Could do with bunch more pics of your Ric too. The other guys would probably get their noses out of joint though. But hey you want to be in more pics play Rics.

this is true.... but as band "webmaster" I control the horozontal and I control the vertical. I just need to get some more decent pix taken (especially of the NEW 360 - a Tuxedo refinished to natural/mapleglo) and I'll be sure to get it on there.

I suspect that some of you old-timers with way more experience of being in bands will agree with me that finding a name of a band that all in the band can agree on can be a NIGHTMARE.
The first incarnation of the band (the one I joined) was called "The Algorhythms" because the founding members were math teachers. I thought is was a cool name (cute double meaning) but people who heard it would say "Oh I get it, like Al Gore, right?"..... ugh, NO. Then the band name was briefly changed to "Special Delivery" (the name of one or our original songs), but I really wanted a name in the form of "The ________s". I came up with a list of dozens and dozens of possible names but we just couldn't get buy-in from all four members. Finally the founding math teacher said he always thought that "The Nightshades" was a cool name and while it wasn't anyone's first choice, it was one we could all agree to.
One of my favorites was "The Burning Sensations". However the reaction of a number of people was "Yipes! You cant call yourselves THAT, nobody will hire you!".

Kent,
one of our blues bands in the very early 60's was called "The Shades of Black". We really like that name a lot. That's probably why I like yours so much.
Al Gore,Ryhthms now theres a good one. Too funny.

It was only when I was trying to come up with band names did I discover that there are so many web sites totally devoted to just that. Amazing.
"The Crabs" was another one I liked that didn't get good reviews... for a approximately the same reason I suppose.

"Catch The Crabs Here!" would look great on a Holiday Inn Marquee...
One of our two original guitarists fired the band during the recording of what was supposed to be our second album (well, he said 'I quit', but there was a lot of a 'you're fired' attitude in it)...When scenesters around here asked me later what had happened, I told them that he had left to pursue a solo project, and that I understood it was going to be called "Anethma"...
(...which I still think is a good name for a band. The album in question remains in the can to this day, since it contains a lot of hard-to-sort-out co-writing...it was never named, but we refer to it as "Languishing In Limbo".)
I agree, Kent: figuring out a name is at least half the nightmarish 'fun' of being in a band...

The great thing about band names, is that if you write your own material, you can have a lot of fun. My band is The Rampant Carnivores ( www.therampantcarnivores.com ) & we have one song called 'Carnivore' & another called 'Two Meat, No Veg'!
'Rickenbacker'...what a name! After all these years, it still thrills me.
The Rampant Carnivores .......... yea, I noticed that one before... great name.
There was a fairly drunken fellow at a gig the other day who made the point of telling me that we should change the name of the band to "Yo Momma" so that when someone asked who's playing ..... well you get the idea. He must have thought it was a very profound idea because he told me 3 or 4 times.
Nice site, Tony. I feel like an honorary Rampant Carnivore! Maybe a t-shirt could have the band name with one of those circle-and-line "NO" signs through the word VEGAN. Just a thought, and if you manage to annoy any real vegans, so much the better.

I lived in Hawaii in the '80's, and I recall a dearth of rock and roll bands, mostly there were singer songwriters doing covers and Hawaiian music groups. I'd imagine people are starved for rock! Good luck with your project!

Hey Jerry... where did you live? We're on Oahu and the band is based in Kailua. We play Kailua, Kaneohe, N Shore, Honolulu, Waikiki. Basically everywhere but Waianae. You are absolutely right about the dearth of rock bands. There are some around but its really not even a billionth of what a Seattle scene is for instance. Also, so many of the bands that are here are doing this "Jawaiian" **** (IMHO) which is sort of island breeze rock set to a vague reggae beat.... VERY boring except that I gotta admit that some of those local guys can really sing great harmonies. My theory is that the LACK of a real rock'n'roll scene here actually works in our favor. Even though there are fewer venues, there is also less competition.... just a smaller pie all around. One of the things we strive to do is to be able to play in different modes so that we can fit into some hotel convention meeting (they want you to be soooo quiet its silly) and also the middle-of-the-road scene like the Yacht Clubs (they like danceable oldies) the bar scene where we can turn it up (although we are NOT a loud band) and play driving blues and stuff like that.
>>>annoying vegans? Come on, bro'...that's shootin' fish in a barrel!
yea Dane, you got a point there. I went into a health food store the other day and was getting a REAL obvious stink-eye from one of the clerks who kept looking at my shoes. Dunno, I guess the suede Birkenstocks were too much for him to handle. Or maybe it was the "Charter Member: Vast Right Wing Conspiracy" T-shirt that got under his skin .... (just kidding!!)
